01 Nov Mindful Eating
November and December are two months full of celebrating and eating!
This holiday season, try practicing Mindful Eating.
What is Mindful Eating?
Mindful Eating is an approach to eating that focuses on your sensual awareness of the food and your experience with the food.
Simple Ways to Practice Mindful Eating:
- Sit down and eat. Put your food on a plate. Give the food your full attention. “Only Eat Off Your Feet.”
- Slowly Chew. Swallow your food before taking the next bite. Try eating with your non-dominant hand. Research shows that people eat 30% less when they use their non-dominant hand. “Pace, Don’t Race”
- Savor. Smell. Taste. Notice each spoonful of food and turn off all distractions. “When You Eat, Just Eat.”
Mindful eating has been shown to:
- reduce stress associated with eating
- help with weight loss
- prevent binge eating
Mindful Eating is a very powerful tool! Try it with your family this holiday season.
