Food WasteFood Waste

The holidays are a wonderful time for eating!  Unfortunately, we waste massive quantities of food on a daily basis.

  • The United States discards more food than any other country in the world: nearly 40 million tons or 80 billion pounds every year which equates to 219 pounds of waste per person or think of it as every person in America throwing more than 650 average sized apples right into the garbage every year.
  • Wasting food contributes to 11 percent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Food is the single largest component taking up space in American landfills.

Watch this video with your family to learn more about Education on Food Waste.

If everyone does their part to take responsibility, from children to adults, by making small changes we can create meaningful sustainable changes for the planet!
