21 Feb Yoga and a Child’s Digestive Health
Teaching children Yoga is a very low-cost helpful tool that can have a positive impact on digestive health.
Yoga has been around for thousands of years.
Yoga postures incorporate breathing techniques, meditation, and movement.
Research has shown that certain Yoga postures have a positive impact on digestive health by:
- stretching muscles of the abdomen to improve blood flow and peristalsis making it easier to pass stool and gas
- working on the brain-gut axis and reducing inflammation and stress
- promoting diversity of the microbes in the digestive tract and aiding metabolism and digestion
Check out these extra big Yoga Flash Cards designed for children. Each card has drawings of the poses and short descriptions of how to do them.
This great video by a yoga instructor, Clare Patterson, shows children a routine to help reduce abdominal pain.
