Eating excess carbohydrates leads to insulin resistance, and insulin resistance leads to a serious condition called metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome involves a number of symptoms such as:
high blood sugar
increased waist circumference
high blood pressure
Metabolic syndrome increases the risk of developing conditions such as cardiovascular disease and type II diabetes. As much as 32% of the population in the U.S. has metabolic syndrome.
